New year, New Adventures!
So, here we are, in 2017 - and I've kicked it off with a lot of projects on my plate! It's quite hard to believe that I have been a freelance illustrator since the Autumn of 2014. In that time I've learnt so much, but still have so much I wish to achieve. But, a life without dreams would be a dull one indeed, so despite being ever impatient and trying to do everything all at once, it's important this year to start to enjoy the journey I'm on.
2016 was a year where a lot of wonderful opportunities landed at my door somehow, and thankful though I am for everything I've achieved, and the wonderful people who've made it happen, authors, agents, art designers and publishers - I won't disguise that it has certainly been hard work (and a lot of it!). Illustration can often sound like a dream job, and in many ways it is, but It would be irresponsible of me not to admit it takes a lot of dedication and hard work too!
Last year, I reflect that toward the end of the year I went back to old habits and started putting work first. I forgot to take time out, to take a step back and slow down. So, this year is about achieving my work life balance, taking time to do the things I've put off for years, like learning to drive and doing Yoga (first having invested in a mat at least)! Work is a great passion of mine, and despite my love for art, it's not something I want to consume every corner of my time.
This year i'm aiming for positivity, taking the time to take care of myself and spend more time with loved ones. And when it comes to work, I want to achieve a quality over quantity balance, in order to really enjoy the process of making books!
I hope in the months to come that I can come back and reflect on this post and remember to illustrate, but not to push myself too much.
